Well that certainly could have gone better

So I decided I was at a good enough point with the site design to go ahead and import the other blog. at first it wasn’t doing anything but timing out. It would spin along with the little icon spinning away like it was happily working it’s ass off, then… nothing. After three attempts (any more than that and I feared meeting the definition of insanity) It occurred to me that it may be a plugin or seven. Once I got digging a bit my compression plugin was happily chugging away at the 1,000 imported photos; that were already compressed. and it still didn’t import the pages or entries. Well that turns out to be the difference between the username on the one blog, and the completely identical because it’s the same actual user login and database entry on this blog. But because the importer actually leaves the server for the cross check, it sees it as two different usernames because it sees two different URL’s because of the redirects. It’s like someone knocking at my door at 8 am, saying “Hey there”, closing my door, then knocking again and saying “Hey There” but legitimately not recognizing me because it’s 34 seconds later and the sun position is different on the shadows of my face. In the end, I got it all imported, but once again I have a NASA data dump worth of URL’s to fix and a thousand photos to relink. They are all (nearly all) working, but technically they are still pointing to the original blog entries. I guess it will give me something to do when I’ve nothing else to do. hehehehehehehe
