Vista Sux, but it doesn’t.

Building a new computer for a friend. As much as he doesn’t really want it, he needs to have Vista 64bit as he needs to be able to trouble shoot things on his website. He also likes to upgrade only as little as possible. Last one was just about 6 years ago. So, it ends up that he now the proud owner of an Intel Core2Duo 6600, Nvidia 8600, Nforce 650i, with 1 Terra byte in RAID1, and 8 Gigs of ram. The 8 Gigs being his idea. The 8 Gigs being my trouble for the last week. Turns out as hyped as vista was for supporting more than 4 gigs of ram (XP is limited to under 4) they didn’t actually test it on too many things. I guess they didn’t figure on many people spending money on ram and upping to 4 gigs. (let alone 8) Info on the net is all mixed up as everyone is still busy talking out their asses. It doesn’t help that the same crashes and errors can be from different things. I finally threw Linux on it to see if it would work. It ran fine. So figuring out that the problem was Vista, I just had to find out if it was Microsoft or The Drivers. After some better searching I found a patch and all worked fine, except I didn’t have the RAID array set up. It wouldn’t let me clone the existing drive, so I had to start from scratch. So here it is, brain the size of a planet…

Had a break in the weather on Sunday so I got the vent installed and the windows caulked. Just have to clean the garage before we go to Michigan.

The dog got a cyst on it’s paw, and has been on antibiotic, bitter apple, and wearing a cone thing. It is getting better, and will hopefully be better before we leave.

Really not much has gone on.
