I had someone call with a question while I was at work.
This is my job.
Can I mail in my rent?
yes of course. But we have no control over the post office, so it may get here late.
But my flight leaves today, I won’t have time to pay it. I was going to Express over night it.
Are you here in town?
Yes I am., are you here in Anchorage?
(that would be in town.)
Yes. it would probably be a better use of your time if you drove by the office and threw your rent check at me, instead of waiting in line at the post office.
But I don’t know where you are
how have you been paying rent all this time???you’ve either come in or mailed it. WTF is this?
We are at (street) and (cross-street) just behind (landmark) at (address number) (arterial direction street)
How do I get there from (same landmark) and (alternate street)
???? Someone is trying to Screw with me
Are you on a cell phone driving?
Yes, but I’m parked
well you figured out how to work the cell phone
Turn off the engine, take your keys and get out of the car. See the (landmark)?
yes
what color is it?
blue
OK, turn around a look behind you….See the (building color) and (other building color) building about 50 feet away?
yeeeees???
See the big lighted letters along the whole top?? it says (company name)?
YES
That’s us. it will be much quicker to drop off your rent than go to the post office.
but I don’t have the money.
People are stupid.
I’ve been dealing with them on a public basis as part of my job, whatever job I had, since I’ve been employed. So 15+ years.
The last 10 of which have been very public as either counter help or my current front desk position.
I am no longer surprised by people and their behavior (or stupidity)
I like people just fine. As a species, and on an individual basis I think we are fascinating, and amusing.
But get us together is some common group and intelligence goes out the window.
Especially in Wal*Mart.
But for the most part, like the expression, I think of us as slinkys.
you just can’t help but smile when one goes down the stairs
None of this makes any sense, now. But it will later, I think.
