Happy Washer is very happy

Some of you are probably aware that the wife and I are currently finishing out a week of hell. Multiple trips to the Dentists,  to the local ER, then finally a very unpleasant trip to the major ER/Trauma center in Seattle. Some emergency oral surgery and an unhappy wife. While all this was going on the batteries on both vehicle decided that a week of hell sounded like a nice change of pace and decided to go. Oh, and one of them, I think it was the Mazda battery, convinced the washing machine to commit suicide.

Washer remains

Those are the remains of something from the washer. Basically I heard is washing away like a good washer should, then suddenly i heard what can only be described as it kicking a stool out from under itself and dropping its fully wash loaded self onto the floor in the attempt of a hanging. I assume the mess underneath is from it soiling itself.  Conveniently Most of the stores were having major model end and Veterans Day sales. Not really sure I should walk up to a vet and say thank you for saving me a bunch of money on my washer and dryer though. somewhere in all the W/D fiasco I was supposed to only get a washer, then pick up the dryer at a later date as it wasn’t in stock. No big deal. I took the washer home and got it into the garage. I then took the wife to urgent care. a few hours later we got home and I went to install the washer only to find that it was a dryer. So I called the store, explained the situation, and they told me not to worry as they have a washer still. So I went back, got the washer and placed it besides Lola in the garage. We then had the trip to the ER, then the next day the dentist, then the trauma center in Seattle. I got to installing everything again today.

One of the things we’ve wanted for a long time was a stacking washer and Dryer set. So we put Lola on top of the washer and discovered something. with the extra capacity sets, when you put a dryer on top of the washer even someone who is 6’4″ cannot see the fucking dials on the dryer. If I had a stool I would be OK, but the wife would not be able to operate Lola without a step ladder. Not a practical way to do laundry. So down it came. The next thing I realized is that the washer door is not switchable like the dryers. so Now I had to swap which device was where. Luckily I had long enough hoses. Since Lola was now going into the corner I hooked it up first. Opened the door to get the parts out and found two hoses inside. So now my dryer really thinks it’s a washer. I look through the manual and discover it has a steam setting. I decided to respect Lola’s life choices and hooked it up to the water line.

Now that Lola was situated I moved onto the washing machine. this was all pretty straight forward until I started to remove the shipping bolts from the drum. Samsung takes it’s shipping bolts far too seriously. They were encased in a plastic cartridge and embedded with what I can only assume was stubborn flubber. Every time I tried to pull the buggers out, they pulled themselves back in. After finally convincing them to release by assuring them that I would place them in a nice quiet drawer and leave them alone for the rest of their lives, I had a fully functional washing machine. Deciding that there were far more options than just ON, I decided it would be in my best interest to at least look at the manual. There is apparently a thing called calibration mode on this thing. It like when you calibrate the gyroscope on your phone. You hit the keys, and it spins and pretends to have a crisis for 3 minutes and when done sings you a happy little song. Not unlike the wife when she has a crisis.

So this is where we are at currently. We’ve gotten both batteries replaced, The wife is finally on the way to recovery, though she is still sore and has much more work ahead, the washer is happily humming to itself while it finished the work the old machine started. I take that back. It is currently having another crisis, I suspect the load is about done and it will sing the happy song soon. I’ll play with Lola tomorrow. I’m interest to see how much better it can dry clothes over the old POS that eats shirt straps.
