So on Sunday we looked at a few houses in south Seattle in our price range. While ‘interesting’, they were in not so good neighborhoods and in extremely poor shape. We then went over to West Seattle and saw some very nice carriage house style homes that we liked, but they had no yard. Really no yard, just a landscaped section in the front. It would also have been a rough commute for Melissa by bus. Nearly a half hour for less than a mile (if working downtown). For that distance/time we could live north of the city get more house, and she could take the express and have the same commute time.
As for the city itself I think we are making the right decision. I really like Seattle. Even the rough parts are nothing like I’ve seen back in Michigan, but I still wouldn’t want to pay $250,000 to live in what amounts to a small (less than 1200sqft in need of major repairs and no garage or driveway) Taylor equivalent house. That’s too much money for a run down property in a run down neighborhood. Unfortunately the neighborhoods we do like have houses way out of our price range. I have really liked hanging out in the U district, it’s a lot like Ann Arbor near U of M central campus. Ballard is also very nice, but WAY out of our price range by 101. There are just not that many cougars, and I ain’t that young anymore. Lakeview looks ok as does Freemont.
We are heading up to Everette tomorrow to look around. The a position Melissa interviewed for today may be located there. Housing is cheaper there and we have seen a lot of potential properties that direction.
Melissa interviewed today for a new position within her company. It was a 2 hour interview with a bunch of different people. I wandered around the Stewart street and Westlake Avenue area. I got some nice pictures in the Gallery
Today while driving around with our realtor, we saw a car flipped on it’s side. I was impressed. when you take into account the traffic and the pedestrians an the slow speed limit that is not an easy task. I am very curious about the physics of the whole thing.
