I find it comforting to know that if humanity colonizes other worlds, then is nearly wiped out of existence, has to travel far and wide in search of food to the point of risking radiation death, and losing a decent percentage of the population that there will still be plenty of tobacco and top shelf booze.
I suppose that as ships flee the planet, all the seats could be ripped out of the transports and replaced with barrels People could stand in the barrels while holding the lid. This would take a lot of time though. It would be better to keep various booze storage ships in random areas through out the sector. If they would have started this at the beginning of the truce with the Cylons they would have some very nicely aged (50yo minimum, not that there is much point after 20 or so) casks at full strength. Watering it down to the typical 40% you can get about 200 75cl bottles. Rounding down the surviving population to 45,000 (there are bound to be non drinkers, and of course children) That leaves basically needing only 225 barrels for everyone to have their own fifth. Barrels are about 21*36 round. allowing for space between (couple of inches on either side, 24″ total) 225 barrels would take up an area about 2700cuft. A standard cargo container for shipping and long haul is about 2720cuft capacity (how convenient). Surely a space faring race of booze hounds can create a larger vessel than a 40 ft semi truck trailer. Currently our smallest cargo vessels can haul about 500 of them. So assuming a single small cargo vessel full of booze. That’s 112,500 barrels. 500 days of a fifth of top shelf booze for everyone! (irradiated booze after the middle of season 2) you could easily stretch that out with the stills on the various ships.
I would assume that they would do the same thing with Tabacco.
