Hey God?…not funny.

I should not have made the “yeah no leaks” comments. Saturday I reformatted the file storage drive on the server to make it easier to do back ups. I though I had backed everything up. It seems that some of the Photos didn’t actually transfer over to the other computer like it seemed like they did. (horrible sentence). The worst part is I had already transferred the files back onto the new layout, thus permanently over writing anything I may have been able to salvage in that section. When it got down to it I only lost from August 8. Unfortunately that means The bathroom ceiling work, Melissa’s Missouri trip, The huge pile of photos for our Charity tax donation, Christmas, and Melissa’s Quilt she made for her mom. The last two I had JUST put on the hard drive and formated over on the camera.

I was able to recover a bunch of the pictures, sort of. The recovery program basically just finds any reference to ‘jpg’ extracts what it can, and dumps it into a folder. Browser cache, thumbnails, EXIF info… I ended up weeding through over 100,000 jpegs. If ever there was a need for 4 Gig of ram… I have 512 Megs. Many of the photos are in the pile 3, 4, 13 times. Sometimes it’s just the split color info, or a thumbnail, or the even number pixels…
I have no idea how many ‘different’ photos I managed to recover. I’m going to try the xd card later today. See if I can get some more. In the mean time NewEgg has shipped us a very nice hard drive that matches the very nice hard drive that I fuskd up.

Ah well…
