A year goes by fast

It’s been a year since I started Plastic Paddy Pogue. The only promotions I’ve really done is the automatic links to facebook and other social media services. Mainly because I wanted a buffer of archives for new readers to be able to look at, and also I wanted to see how much traffic would potentially come from Google and Bing just on their own. So to that end, most of the comic titles, or blog entries have been geared towards SEO relative to that particular comic. My keywords may not have been the best, but they made sense. Well, at least within the odd reasoning I created for myself at the time. My goal wasn’t to make money. That’s not even my goal with the comic at this time. What I was/am trying to do is make it so that the comic show up in some strange places; non obvious strange places. Having the comic show up under “bigger penis” would be funny but obvious, not to mention difficult with the flooded market and lack of comics talking about larger firmer phallus.

What follows will mostly be boring for a lot of people. Well for probably everyone but me really.

What started the whole idea is the SEO section on Google Analytics. We never really announced mostlymaylone.org on anything but our own pages, but still wanted a way to track outside usage so that we knew if anything was linked to, or any content reposted illegally.  The data has been interesting, I think mostly because for a long time the site was so small that it was easy to search through the keywords that brought up our pages. After August 2013 the data gets pretty skewed for comparisons because I started Plastic Paddy Pogue as well as moved all the blogs to sub-domains.

For the record, the Queried keyword for the entire site is “xkcd screenshot” with a whopping 35 impressions and no clicks since Jan 2012. This is followed next by “Drawing Fisting” with 5 impressions, and 5 clicks. Neither of these are in any part of my SEO. Though I have to admit, “fisting” has been added to the page in question. Actually, since I changes the gallery software, as well as cross posted on this blog, it’s kind of in a few different places. It’s coming up because of this drawing.

Fisting F Chord

As I said, I separated the data, so for mostlymindless (this blog) the biggest keywords have to do with the help pages that are set up. (hover over home for the drop down) all though “in which doris gets her oats” has actually gotten a few search hits. Not bad for unintentional, and an 7.6 average position. I suspect there have been a few very disappointed people between Doris, and fisting.

So, for the comic I was in for a bit of a surprise. The most impressions thus far is “not quite awake“. I really can’t fathom why you would search Google for the term, but there it is. Unsurprisingly, “fisting first time” has the best page rank (2.4). Sadly, plastic paddy ranks 3rd for impressions and 19th in average position (43) This is still good news as when I started out it was in the 200’s. It’s kind of still sad that I’m fighting for positioning on a derogatory phrase.

Really though, at this point most of the organic data I get is labeled “not provided” so I really have no idea what people are searching for when they land on one of our pages. So I present some of the more bizarre search terms I’ve had traffic from.

  • mating socks
  • 162000000000000000 miles
  • aline tits tats
  • blastocystis crawlspace
  • cajun muffintop
  • i am somsing you
  • mcchord afb gateway to hell
  • mindless sites (I should have seen that one)
  • olives and muffin tops
  • pear pimples for hairy fishnuts
  • tearing up the hymen
  • toilettrees game

If only I knew what pages came up with these, well some of them. I’m really curious about the second to last two. I don’t recall ever using the word hymen, let alone writing about tearing one up, and what the hell is the toilettrees game? People are fucking weird. (this page will now probably come up when people search for “People are fucking weird
